Cell Site Analysis

The process of cell site analysis is more fully termed historic cell site analysis and can take one of two forms. The most basic form is analysis of the Call Data Records (CDRs) which contain the cell site data for the phone use over the relevant period. These files are obtained from one of the key networks such as O2, Vodafone, H3 or EE.

This data can be reviewed by our cell site expert to ascertain likely locations of a device at a given time, together with potential movements during key periods. This evidence is presented on a mapped report to enable a clear and concise image of what the data represents.

The second form incorporates the inclusion of survey measurements. Survey measurements involve either the identification of cells providing service within a specific area or the discovery of the area over which a cell provides service. Specialist equipment is used to measure serving cells, this data is then analysed alongside the call data records and presented by our expert.
Both methods of analysis are carried out by our expert with the intention of aiding in the detection of the potential location of a phone or the relative locations of phones during key events under investigation.
Not only does cell site analysis involve the review of a single call data record to ascertain potential movements it can also be used to provide levels of communication between two or more devices, whether those devices were potentially co-located, or whether two or more devices could have been used by the same person.
Our cell site expert has a proven record in the completing of expert reports and giving expert witness testimony in criminal courts and has been involved in the critical review of prosecution case papers relating to cell site analysis on over 200 occasions. He is also a member of the UK Register of Expert Witnesses.

Most used cell by the device during a given period

Co-location and Non-Co-location Analysis
Were two devices together or is there evidence they could not have been together at a given time

Concurrent usage

Mapping of what cells a device used and expected area of coverage
